Scuba Diving for Research and Education   by Daniel Blinman

Scuba diving is not only a fun activity for all but it can be useful in the field of marine biology. Scuba diving and snorkeling are common activities for those that vacation in warm climates such as the Bahamas or Hawaii. Children and adults can learn about the ocean and all the animals found in it, up close and personal. Education about the world’s ocean habitats is very important because global climate change and pollution are affecting our oceans in a very negative way. The future inhabitants of the world have a right to view the amazing things found in these ocean habitats just like the current population has. The more people are educated the less likely they are to do things that negatively affect the world’s oceans. Scuba is a great way to educate.
Scuba diving and snorkeling are how some coastal areas are able to make money. Most of the time scuba diving and snorkeling are a method of tourism. People traveling to exotic places like to swim on coral reefs and view the life that is living on the reefs. This is a way for native people to make money. Some of the places in these tropical areas depend on tourists to help keep their economies going.
However, the most important reason for scuba diving and snorkeling is for scientific research. The human population knows more about outer space than what lies on the bottom of the oceans. Scuba has allowed people to go where they were not able to go in the past. This has allowed people to learn more about what is found in the oceans.
The world has been able to learn lots of things from diving expeditions. The oceans are full of things that humans can use to help with real life situations. Blood from the horseshoe crab is used in testing for contamination in medications and shots. There are so many other possibilities out there in which scuba diving could be the answer to finding out the possibilities out in the oceans.
Whether it is science or everyday people scuba diving can be a useful tool in education. Research is an important way people are able to learn about the world around them. Knowledge helps keep the natural resources safe for future generations to come. Many places rely on the oceans to feed their people, and scuba diving responsibly helps to ensure this continues.
