The Italian P.T.A. Explorer Team “SCHWARZY” have made another amazing deep dive in the Italian PIETRO MICCA submarine: it was sunk 63 years ago just three miles far from the Santa Maria di Leuca (south Italy) harbour.
On 29th July 1943, a torpedo sank the 300 feet long submarine and 60 people died from this tragedy, currently, the submarine lies at 287 fett deep down.
The diving exploration presentation took place near Milan by the entire deep diver team. They made over 25 deep dives to the wreck.
There were three deep diver speakers: Yury Esposito who gave the historical accounts; Federico Barigazzi spoke about the technical informations regarding the preparation of the expedition and Marco Arrigoni, deep diver Trainer and Team Leader,
unfolded the full story to the large audience present, giving accounts on the difficulties encountered during the expedition, such as low visibility, the dangers of the depth and the very strong current..
During the speech, a short film with some of the most amazing pictures was shown.
To finalize the evening, we were honoured by the presence of one of the survivers, the Naval Vessel Lieutenant EZIO COZZAGLIO of the Pietro Micca submarine, who gaves us a tragic and touching portrayal of the sinking incident.
At 278 ft down, the “SCHWARZY” team, made an emotional ritual to the dead, living on board of Pietro Micca a plaque with the words “The seaman prayer”.
