NUNO GOMES AND CLAUDIA SERPIERI (Both deep world record divers), and together with the other 115 Technical deep divers, will jump in the cold water of the Lake Maggiore (north Italy). they will be divided into several different teams: deep air - 60 meters down; trimix - 100 meters to 130 meters down and re-breather team will go down with some different machines.

However, this is not only a mass deep dive record but an unique and important occasion for the science and medical research to understand and monitorize short/long term effects on the human body.

Doctors from the DAN (Divers Alert Network) the worldwide organization, will look into the nitrogen levels in the bloodstream of over 100 deep divers, also with some underwater eco Doppler examinations. The scuba community believe the results of this study/observations will give doctors and scuba diving trainers a lot of new information which will surely improve the security level for deep divers and will help doctors to give better treatments for diving-related accidents and illnesses.

After many years of planning finally this exciting diving event will be concretized during those two days. The results of this mega diving exercise will be announced on the following evening at a conference attended by over 500 people.
The big-tech-dive in Lake Maggiore will be reminded as the 2006 important episode in diving science and technology."

The two days diving organised by DESA, PTA and DAN “100 Deep Divers for the Science” are now concluded. On Saturday 30th more than 110 divers divided into 45, 60, 100 and 130 metres providing an extensive material pre and post dive examinations which will be published soon by the DAN.

The two guests of honour, Mr Achille Ferrero, the CMAS President, and Jim Bowden, the world famous record man, were very satisfied with the event and the importance of it. Nuno Gomes, Red Sea deep record at 318 metres, declared he was very impressed by the organisation and the outcome.
Claudia Serpieri who had a record of 180 metres in the Lake Maggiore was back into old waters, diving and contributing to the event. However, to extend the list of illustrious personality in the diving world, we had also present, Luigi Casati, Andrea Ghisotti and Alessandro Scuotto. During the event, we had the opportunity to test onto some divers, the new system of double underwater eco-dopper supplied by the Institute of Clinic Physiology of the Italian CNR.
On Sunday 1st October, the conference day, after the diving, Alessandro Marroni, Worldwide President of DAN, said ‘ We never had such world wide examination on so many tech divers at once. We had 11 examinations done on each diver, which means, an important amount of information for our files.”
At the conference there were many speakers, the Professor Constantino Balestra who gave a very interesting speech on physiology and physiopathology of the deep diver, Corrado Bonuccelli gave a speech on decompression algoritms, Luca Torcello about PTA Scientific Commission, Mario Marconi on Rebreathers, Fabio Manganelli on the Human Factor, Andrea Cortesi on the Explorer teams and finally Roberto Baraldi on the Decompression Software.
The conference finished with Nuno Gomes, showing his last film on the Red Sea world record, 318 metres. The movie was an inspiration to all divers, because it underlined the importance of preparation, organisation and care.
The entire event was a major achievement to all of us Tech Divers, as we in the near future will use the information from these two days to help us to understand many factors which occur when diving.
